Escape the City goes LIVE

March 9th, 2010

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my E-Mail updates. Thanks for visiting!

Today I woke up to find Escape the City was live!

This is fast becoming my favourite website.

Here is why

Escape the City: Introduction from Escape the City on Vimeo.

Escape the City is more than a website it’s more of a resource base for people who just want to live their lives and find something they enjoy. It allows not only people the ability to get inspired by inspiring people but also the chance to go to esc events to meet these people, opportunities from amazing jobs and also the chance to build connections to help with your goal.

I look forward to watching Escape the City evolve into something quite amazing..

Fundraising ideas?

February 26th, 2010

Well, am getting ever closer to finishing my degree, hence my lack of content, posts etc on my site. Once my degree is finished I will be starting to dig into routes, plans etc for my trip. With that comes the challenging task of raising £10,000  for ActionAid. I have a few ideas about a few things I can do in order to raise money but nothing that will make the £10,000.

What are your ideas? Any tips on how to do this??

Thanks

10 things I wish I knew when I was 16

February 4th, 2010

1. Be unique

I spent most of my youth trying to fit in with the other people. I now realise what a load a crap that is. Original ideas seem to be the key for anything ranging from a business to a website. The ability to evolve a stale idea or concept and move it forward, the ability to look at a problem from a different angle. We are lucky these days as we now have access to a wealth of information via the internet and can learn and be inspired by whatever and whoever. These are things/people that have helped me over the years… TED Seth Godin and George Carlin

2. People are full of shit

It’s everywhere.. People are full of shit! We live in a culture where it is socially acceptable to use two of the highest killing drugs and in fact is encouraged in some social circumstances yet a natural substance like marijuana to be used for medical purposes is frowned upon. I can go on about this for sometime but I will let you watch a video for the biggest bullshit story of all time!

3. Things change

This might be just me but I bet others can relate to it as well, did you ever see your life as a kid to just fit into place at around 30? Get a house, get a job, a wife the 2.4 children the two cars all that bullshit. I had always expected somehow without no effort from myself that it would just “fit”. I see it now, I see old school friends updating their relationship to engaged.. having kids. I am 27 next year and at 27 and a half I will have sold all my stuff have no place to live and will try and cycle around the world with other adventures planned. Things change.

4. The importance of a target/ goal

I am a huge fan and believe in the mental benefits of setting yourself and reaching a goal. It can be anything from raising money for charity to simply just having more fun, it doesn’t matter what it is, what matters is that you’re focusing on doing something positive (goals normally are) and when you reach them it’s an amazing feeling. All good for mental wellbeing.

5. Question everything

This is a follow on from number 2 but by question everything you realise that people are full of shit. Question everything, your religion, teachers, parents. Human curiosity is an amazing thing.

6. It doesn’t really matter

I have been around many people who get stressed over very little issues that are not really important, at all. Relax.

7. Stop buying shit!

Thankfully, I don’t really buy anything I don’t need and only spend money on new projects… I have wasted so much money on crap. So easy to spend, hard to earn.

8. How to manage time

This one is a killer. I am still learning to do this but at least I know now the importance of it. Time of flying by and we have no choice about it. The years fall away and it seems only yesterday you were at that new years eve party. Have a look at your everyday life, what can you strip out and replace with a more fulfilling activity.

9. Throw yourself into the deep end

Don’t be afraid, at about 19/20 I decided that I would throw myself into everything I came across and within 3 years I had raised £11,000 for  charity, collected 30,000 text books for 25 schools in Tanzania, went to Tanzania to hand out those books, skydived over Mount Kilimanjaro, safari in the serengeti, hitch hiked to Prague for charity, put on events in night clubs and now am planning all my adventures. Throw yourself in and see how you swim :)

10. Save all your money

Buy majority stake in google and facebook. Sorted
